We must own our choices and take responsibility for every turn of the ship. That's not to say a storm here or there won't blow you off course, but it is your choice how you handle it. Do you change direction because of the storm, or do you check the ship, regroup, and hold steadfast to your course?
As we set a foundation, allow for the inevitable changes in life, and own our decisions, we can grow and flourish and build the lives we dream of. We can keep getting to know ourselves and learn to appreciate not only the clear skies, but that the frustrating and exciting parts of the journey make us feel alive as well.
Or we can stop. Stop steering the ship, and let it succumb to the forces outside of ourselves. But if we stop, we still change. We still experience the world around us and the movement of the ship, and the caveman shows up in ways that may not align with our values in order to help us survive. The longer we let go, the more out of alignment we feel. We float aimlessly in the water. A ship without a Captain is lost.
Taking agency in the journey and becoming a Captain is to develop a relationship with yourself and chart a course that you believe in. Studies show that we do not regret our mistakes, we regret the things we did not do, and the journeys we did not take.
